The lodge was consecrated on the October 1980 at its banner dedication attended by the then Deputy Provincial Gran Master the Very Worshipful Brother R.S.E Sandbatch P.G. SWD.BR, In his address to the brethren he outlined that the identity of Lodge Prudence being the for those founding members and any future members
What will your future members see when they look at this banner? What will it mean to them? What should you, who are now members of the Lodge, tell them about it?
And it would be a sad thing if they did not know when you had tried with thought and care to express it in your hopes for this Lodge and your message to those who will follow you in its fellowship.
The immediate impact of the central device is that of formidable strength, a gateway or keep that can and will be defended. The lowered Portcullis emphasises the will of those within to let no intruder or cowan pass. The solid structure of perfect ashlars speak of fortitude and strength, of purpose and of rectitude, but a portcullis can be raised to admit those whom the inhabitants of the keep would prudently welcome and seen from within, those walls will stand for security and the exclusion of all whom would disturb its harmony.
But if security and harmony are to survive, there must be a constant vigilance. No man is an island, and life within the confines of a fortress, as within the symbolic walls of a Masonic Lodge, calls on those who are so enclosed and protected, for forbearance and understanding, If harmony and security are to withstand the pressures which the life of any flourishing community will impose :there must be moderation, which, in one face of prudence, is all things. And just as no man is an island, so no stronghold can exist independently of the surroundings in which it stands. It cannot divorce itself from the world around, whether holding it in subjection or providing protection to those who dwell in the shadow of its walls.
For there is indeed a choice to be made between hate and love, and you as a Masonic Lodge will strive, as the ritual urges, by virtuous, amiable and discreet conduct to prove to the world the happy and beneficial effects of our ancient institution.
The virtue of prudence for which you have named your Lodge demands that you should form, forthright judgments, and that you cannot achieve by living apart from the world. Prudence and justice must march side by side, for the sake of all the integrity of both.
You will see that the Keep has strong watchtowers, so that even the part the portcullis bears the gate, a watch may be kept, not only to warn off intruders. and distributors of harmony, but also to see those who approach so that distress and the burdened heart shall not go unanswered. The watchman on the tower will look outward, and it is necessary that you, as members of the Masonic Lodge, and indeed all of us as members of the Craft, should ever look outward, and scan the world before us with sympathy, so that when anyone is said to be a member, the world may know that we will relieve distress and comfort sorrow, with justice and benevolence, which is the same thing as saying “with prudence, for prudence is an act, not a passive virtue.
In 2023 the Lodge was re-born out of the need to save its struggling membership. A group of masons with an interest in forming a lodge centred around martial arts of all types came together to provide Prudence Lodge with a new lease of life.
Lodge of Prudence is a place where two passions coincide – Freemasonry and all things Martial arts and It is now a thriving, fun and vibrant masonic lodge with an ardent martial arts fan base, a quirky lodge which members are proud to be part of and others want to visit to experience the fun, engaging meeting and social activities.
